The friend by your side

Friends are individual and have names – the same applies here. Each model has a name, and within a model each bag is designed only once, exactly as it is then made.

You’ll find that you can discover not only female friends here, but male friends too – in other words, bags for men and unisex bags. Depending on how bold, romantic or practical you are.

At present, we sell the bags shown here exclusively in our manufactory on the Canary Island of La Palma. An online shop is in preparation.

Handcrafted one-offs

made with love on the Spanish island of La Palma.

When we get up in the morning, we’re already looking forward to our workshop, where we design and make handmade one-off pieces for you. It often starts at breakfast: "What do you think of the idea of ...?" – "Oh yes, come on, let’s do it", and we can hardly wait to get back to our beloved manufactory.
That’s where patterns are designed, cut out, discarded, improved, stitched as a test. And then comes the big moment: the birth of a new bag, and a warm welcome.

Then comes impatient test-wearing, shopping, leaving it in the car for days on end – proper endurance tests that the new bag has to pass. And then improving it again: detail work, or even, now and then, a funeral: it just wasn’t right.

If we ever get a mental block, we look out at the Atlantic, whose view we can enjoy from the workshop. The endless expanse is so inspiring and calming that things usually move on again very quickly.

Traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, hand in hand

But what would creative joy be without perfect execution? For a long time we discussed what high-quality, traditional craftsmanship really means, and came to the conclusion that we didn’t want to force our way of working into rigid boxes either. So we also work with modern technology, such as our industrial leather sewing machine, built exactly to our requirements, because it allows us to realise designs that simply wouldn’t be possible with older machines – and on top of that it produces seam quality that makes our bags a friend for life. Each bag is sewn by hand, individually, one at a time, and just for you.

Computer versus memory?

From the very first bag we considered worthy of being sold, we photographed it and entered it in our "bag book". By now we’ve brought so many bags into the world that we started to worry we might accidentally make the same bag twice – hunting through the bag book became ever more laborious and, frankly, it got on our nerves. But we definitely wanted to keep our promise that each one is a one-off. So every finished bag is still photographed from the outside and inside and from every angle, and recorded in a database with its bag number, along with all the leathers, colours and materials used – so that we can always be sure we can keep our promise even after many years, should memory ever fade. Ina still keeps her beloved bag book going out of long-standing affection – essentially as a back-up. To keep this transparent and traceable for you, each bag is given its imperishably incorporated bag number, and we publish all bags and rucksacks on our website, where you can visit them – and of course because we’re a little proud of our children.
So your bag may one day get a little sister or a big brother, but never a twin.

Artificial intelligence and craftsmanship – does that still fit?

Yes – somehow it does, if it helps: you get the best impression of a bag when it’s worn by a person. So we needed photos of people wearing our bags, so you can see how small or large they really are, despite the dimensioned drawings we also publish: centimetre figures are simply abstract. But photographing every bag with a model would make our children so expensive that we turn to AI to show you a realistic picture of how it might look on you too. That’s our only "lapse" – the product photos are still taken conventionally and are not edited, we guarantee that.
We also still think through the texts on this website ourselves, word for word.

New: boiled wool

So many women wanted to buy one of our bags, but leather wasn’t an option for them. We looked for a vegan material and chose boiled wool as our favourite. This traditional material made from 100% virgin sheep’s wool is, of course, not really vegan either, but our customers were delighted – and after all, sheep do need to be shorn to feel comfortable.

So you’ll increasingly find rucksacks and bags made from boiled wool in our range. Even so, we’re staying on the case to find a truly completely vegan alternative that isn’t made from petroleum derivatives and is still durable and hard-wearing. Because, in the end, the best protection for our beautiful planet is to use natural products for as long as possible.

But our personal favourite material will certainly remain real leather – at least as long as people still eat meat and this wonderful, extremely durable natural material is produced, so to speak, as a by-product.
